Application Overview — Rigid plastic packaging includes injection-molded, thermoformed and blow-molded formats designed to protect products, run efficiently on filling lines and present a consistent appearance. Resin selection depends on package geometry, process, stiffness, impact, clarity, sealing system, temperature exposure, barrier needs and regulatory requirements.
Typical Products — • Thin-wall tubs, cups, trays and lids • Caps, closures and dispensing components • Food, dairy and household containers • Clear bottles, jars and clamshell packaging • Cosmetic and personal-care packaging • Industrial pails and transport packaging
Key Performance Requirements — • Stiffness-to-weight balance and top-load strength • Drop impact and handling durability • Clarity, gloss, colour and decoration performance • Fast cycle and consistent dimensional control • Lid fit, sealing, hinge and closure performance • Hot-fill, freezer, microwave, barrier and chemical-compatibility requirements
Material Selection Guide — • PP homopolymer: thermoformed cups, trays, lids and stiff containers. Confirm impact and clarity; thermoforming and injection grades require different flow and melt-strength profiles. • PP random copolymer: clear food containers, housewares and closures. Confirm transparency, hinge, sealing and temperature needs. • PP impact copolymer: dairy tubs, frozen-food containers, pails and durable packaging. Balance impact with stiffness and cycle time. • HDPE: bottles, jars, caps, closures and industrial containers. Select separate blow-molding, injection or closure grades and verify ESCR for the actual contents. • PET bottle or sheet grade: clear bottles, jars, trays and clamshells. Bottle resin and thermoforming sheet resin are not interchangeable; heat-set and recycled-content requirements are specific. • PS / HIPS: dairy cups, disposable trays, lids and display packaging. GPPS favours clarity and stiffness; HIPS improves impact.

Selection Notes — • Specify the package type, process, part weight, wall thickness, filling temperature, contents, closure system, storage temperature and regulatory market. • The finished pack should be validated for drop, compression, sealing, transport and shelf-life performance. • Only manufacturer-supported grades for the exact process should be approved.
