HDPE Resin

HDPE resin for blow-molded containers, pressure pipe, film and injection-molded crates, selected by density and melt index. Send an RFQ.

HDPE grades

High-density polyethylene has a density of about 0.941 g/cm³ and above. It is stiffer, stronger and more chemical resistant than LDPE and LLDPE, which makes it the material for containers, pipe and crates.

Within HDPE, the melt index and molecular weight distribution decide the process.

Choosing an HDPE grade

Blow molding
MI (190 °C / 2.16 kg) around 0.2–1, with good environmental stress-crack resistance for chemical containers.
Pipe
Bimodal PE80 or PE100 grades with very low MI.
Film
High-molecular-weight grades for thin, strong carrier bags and liners.
Injection molding
MI 4–20 for crates, caps and housewares.

Typical applications

  • Bottles, jerrycans and drums
  • PE80 / PE100 pressure pipe
  • Carrier bags and liners
  • Crates, caps and closures

Processing notes

No drying needed. Blow molding and pipe run at about 190–230 °C; injection molding at 200–260 °C. Shrinkage is high (about 1.5–3%), so mold design matters.

General guidance only; follow the producer's TDS for each grade.

HDPE Resin: common questions

What is the difference between PE80 and PE100?

The minimum required strength at 50 years: 8 MPa for PE80, 10 MPa for PE100. PE100 allows thinner walls at the same pressure rating.
