PP Homopolymer

PP homopolymer (PP-H) for raffia, BOPP and cast film, fiber and injection molding, where stiffness and heat resistance come first. Send an RFQ.

PP homopolymer grades

Homopolymer is polypropylene with no comonomer, which gives it the highest stiffness, tensile strength and heat resistance in the PP family. It is the workhorse grade for woven bags, oriented film and fiber.

Its weakness is impact strength below about 0 °C; for cold-storage parts, choose an impact copolymer instead.

Matching a homopolymer to the line

Raffia and woven bags
MFR around 2–4 g/10 min for stable tape stretching and high tenacity.
BOPP and cast film
MFR around 2–4 for BOPP, 6–10 for cast film; check the slip and antiblock package.
Fiber and nonwovens
MFR 12–40 depending on denier; spunbond and fine fiber at the high end.
Injection molding
MFR 10–40 for housewares, caps and thin-wall parts; nucleated grades for faster cycles.

Typical applications

  • Woven bags and FIBC
  • BOPP and CPP film
  • Staple fiber and spunbond
  • Housewares and caps
  • Thin-wall containers

Processing notes

No drying needed. Run tape and film lines at about 230–260 °C melt and injection molding at about 200–240 °C. Keep draw ratios and cooling consistent when switching between producers, as crystallization speed differs.

General guidance only; follow the producer's TDS for each grade.

PP Homopolymer: common questions

Is a homopolymer suitable for frozen-food containers?

Usually not. Homopolymer becomes brittle near 0 °C; an impact or random copolymer is the safer choice for cold use.
