Polylactic acid (PLA) is a new type of bio-based and renewable biodegradable material, which is made from starch raw materials proposed by renewable plant resources (such as corn, cassava, etc.).

Compared with polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP) and other materials, polylactic acid (PLA) has good biodegradability, excellent bacteriostasis and anti-mildew properties. The cold fresh meat is vacuum packed with PLLA - PVA-PCL composite film and packaging materials added with lactic acid streptococcin. The shelf life of the packaged meat is far longer than that of the PE fresh meat, and the meat keeps relatively good color and quality. Under different gas conditions, the test results of the effects of unpackaged, PLA modified atmosphere packaging, PE modified atmosphere packaging, PLA vacuum packaging and PE vacuum packaging on the preservation of carambola showed that the PLA film packaging bag could well preserve the appearance quality and nutritional components of carambola and prolong the shelf life of carambola.
