Fibers & Nonwovens

Application Overview — Polymer fibers and nonwovens cover products ranging from hygiene and filtration media to ropes, tapes and industrial fabrics. The correct resin is determined by the spinning process, filament diameter, draw ratio, thermal-bonding window, strength target, softness, shrinkage and end-use compliance.
Typical Products — • Spunbond and meltblown nonwovens • Hygiene, medical and filtration media • Continuous filament and staple fiber • Woven tapes, raffia, ropes and twines • Monofilaments, bristles and technical fibers • Geotextiles, carpet backing and industrial fabrics
Key Performance Requirements — • Stable melt flow with low gel and contamination levels • Spinnability at the target filament diameter • Tensile strength, elongation and drawability • Softness, drape and thermal-bonding behaviour • Controlled shrinkage and dimensional consistency • Filtration, hygiene, medical or food-contact compliance where applicable
Material Selection Guide — • PP fiber grade: spunbond, staple fiber, continuous filament, woven tapes and monofilament. Melt flow and molecular distribution must match the spinning process; injection-molding PP is not an assumed substitute. • High-flow PP meltblown grade: fine-fiber filtration and absorbent nonwovens. Flow, cleanliness and degradation control are highly grade- and process-specific. • PET fiber grade: staple fiber, filament, industrial yarn, geotextiles and textiles. Intrinsic viscosity, moisture control, crystallisation and spinning conditions must match the fiber type. • PA6 / PA66 fiber grade: textile yarn, industrial fiber, bristles and abrasion-resistant applications. Moisture absorption, drying and heat history affect processing and properties. • PLA fiber grade: selected bio-based nonwovens and packaging fibers. Compostability applies only to a certified finished product system; processing temperature and hydrolysis control are important. • HDPE / PP tape and monofilament grades: woven sacks, ropes, nets and technical monofilaments. Confirm drawability, UV package, tenacity and environmental exposure.

Selection Notes — • Identify the process first: spunbond, meltblown, staple, filament, tape and monofilament grades are not interchangeable. • Provide spinneret or die configuration, target denier, line speed, bonding method, colour and additive requirements. • Final selection should be validated through spinning stability, mechanical testing, bonding trials and finished-fabric compliance.
